We’ve got to get the basics in place and then build on top of those. So let’s begin with something essential that many people don’t get enough of: water.

  • You might even save money

Water doesn’t have to be boring!

Here’s 7 really useful tips to help you get more water into your day.

1. Get Fizzy

This is my personal favourite. I just love sparkling water! I used to be a regular wine o’clocker. 5 o’clock would come around and I’d open the fridge and pour myself a glass of wine.

I realised this was just a bad habit that I thought was helping me destress. It was bad for me in many ways.

I swapped my 5 o’clock wine habit for a bottle of ice cold sparkling water, and this has now stuck. I look forward to my fizz and that’s my end of day treat now.

2. Put a Brita Jug in your Fridge

I keep a jug of filtered water in my fridge so I’ve always got ice cold clean water to enjoy.

I’ve really noticed there’s a big taste difference between tap water (nothing wrong with tap water though, it’s personal preference), and filtered water.

The filtered water just tastes ‘cleaner’ and less metallic. I do drink tap water as well. But if there’s filtered water available that’s always a nice choice.

3. Carry a Bottle

Get yourself a nice bottle you can carry with you so you’ve always got access to water when you need it.

I don’t like going anywhere without a bottle of water with me in case I get thirsty.

Whether it’s in the car, or out on a walk, you’ll always have access to water whenever you need it.

4. Take a Glass of Water to Bed

Sometimes if I wake up in the night (my baby still doesn’t sleep through), I feel thirsty and having water next to your bed makes it nice and easy to top yourself up. If you wake up in the morning and the glass is still sat there, drink it all before you get up.

This means before you’ve even started the day you’ve got a glass of water in. Your body will be thirsty after being asleep all night.

5. Keep Water on Your Desk

If you work at a desk, this is another great place to keep water. It’s also a good way to take a break whenever you go and fill it back up.

Sip water throughout the day as you work and stay well hydrated. This is even more important if you work in an air-conditioned room.

6. Add Lemon/Fruit and Ice

You can add new tastes to your water by adding a slice of lemon, cucumber or fruit like a strawberry.

Adding ice and a straw with your fruit makes your water suddenly feel like you’ve got something a little more exotic! It’s all about tricking your mind if water feels a bit boring. Jazz it up and you’ll soon get used to it.

7. Start noticing how you feel

The final point is to just start noticing how much better you feel when you regularly drink water, and how there’s more of a sparkle in your eyes.

Usually you’ll find you feel less tired and have more energy for starters.

Use this as inspiration to keep going, and stay healthy!
